Why attend meetings?
Attending meetings gives scholars an opportunity to earn extra points for rewards, including GA-ISU recognition at graduation. In addition, a number of raffles will be held at different meetings throughout the semester that gives scholars the opportunity to win free items! Most importantly, however, the time spent at meetings is ideally utilized to ensure scholars are receiving a positive professional development experience that will be sure to benefit their future careers in the field of education.
Festival ISU
Golden Apple ISU always has a booth at Festival ISU. It is a large festival on the Illinois State University Quad where all RSOs are invited to showcase their organization and encourage the student body to get involved!
Golden Apple ISU recruits freshman and sophomore education majors at Festival ISU and pushes them to apply for the scholarship program.
T21 Conference
T21Con is a hands-on, engaging learning opportunity designed for current and aspiring educators to gain an edge in using technology in the classroom. The effective integration of educational technologies has become increasingly important for today’s learners. T21Con connects attendees with resources, strategies, and a network of experts to support their careers in education. This conference is usually held during the fall semester and is open for students, faculty, and staff to attend. It is also completely free!
This year the conference is on September 29th, 2017. Many teachers offer extra credit for attending, but overall it is a great resume builder. If you would like to attend the conference, please visit the College of Education website through this link and click the ‘Registration Tab.’

Golden Apple Formal
Scholars at Illinois State University host a Formal every year for all Golden Apple Scholars. It is typically held during the fall semester and takes place on a Saturday evening at Illinois State University. This year, we are allowing Scholars to bring one non-scholar guest with them. This means that one of the guests does not have to be a Golden Apple Scholar. Guests will be charged $10 beforehand, or $15 at the door.
This year’s formal will take place on October 6th, 2018 from 7-9:30 PM! It is taking place at the Hyatt Place in Bloomington/Normal located at 200 Broadway Ave, Normal, IL 61761. Small snacks and drinks will be provided.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding Formal 2018, please email Sydney Young the Social Chair.
Jammies and Jingles
Every year, Golden Apple Scholars volunteer at Jammies and Jingles. The Children’s Discovery Museum hosts this holiday party for children in the community. Everyone comes in their pajamas and enjoys an evening celebrating the season!
This year, Jammies and Jingles is taking place on Friday, December 1st from 6:00-8:00 PM. Check our calendar for details on points for this event.
Feel free to email Emilee Baldwin with questions at Ebaldwin714@gmail.com.
Golden Apple ISU St. Baldrick’s event
ISU Scholar Emilee Baldwin brought Golden Apple ISU its very own St. Baldrick’s event in 2016. Emilee is a sophomore at Illinois State and serves as Golden Apple ISU’s service chair. She organized last year’s event on campus, where we raised money to donate to the foundation for cancer research.
This year, our event is taking place on March 28th, 2018! Time is TBD. Here is the link to our page where you can join us in the fight, or contribute by donating to help us reach our goal of $7,000!

End of the year Barbecue
Last year, Golden Apple ISU paired with the Golden Apple Foundation and created an all-scholar barbecue at the end of the year! This included dinner, a bags tournament, a raffle, and many alumni and scholars from other schools present! In hopes to keep this event alive, another is in the works for April 2018.

Executive Board Elections
Every year, Executive Board elections are held in November and the new Executive Board begins in January. This year’s elections will take place at our General Assembly meeting on November 13th at 8:30 PM.
If you are interested in running for a position on the Executive Board, please review the descriptions in our Constitution so that you are familiar with the responsibilities. Scholars may choose to run for one or more positions, but can only win one.
If you have any questions, please ask a current member of the Executive Board.
