All Children Deserve Excellent Teachers
Gladly We Learn and Teach
Golden Apple is a non-profit organization that works to inspire, develop, and support teacher excellence in Illinois. Along with awards for teachers, Golden Apple offers a Scholarship that provides exceptional preparation for future educators in Illinois. The Scholarship is granted to a number of high school seniors, college freshmen and sophomores, and community college students each year. Students who are granted the scholarship as a college freshman or sophomore are considered Golden Apple Pathway Scholars.
If you are a freshman or sophomore in college and are interested in applying for the Pathway program, feel free to contact us and visit our Pathway page.
The Golden Apple Scholars Program goes beyond what University programs alone will do in preparing future teachers for their careers. Scholars receive advanced teacher training in up to four Summer Institutes across the state of Illinois that provide more than three times the amount of classroom experience prior to student teaching than traditional education majors. During these Summer Institutes, Scholars are mentored by outstanding, award-winning teachers. They also receive a $2,000 stipend during the Summer Institute in addition to the $2,500 awarded for tuition assistance in freshman and sophomore years. Juniors and seniors receive $5,000 in tuition assistance. Pathway Scholars (Golden Apple Scholars who were granted the scholarship as college freshmen or sophomores) receive the same tuition assistance in regards to their respective year that they joined the program. Golden Apple Scholars continue to receive support and encouragement into their teaching years and are invited to attend the annual Center for Ongoing Renewal and Enrichment (CORE) conference which provides ongoing professional development.
Illinois State has the highest number of Golden Apple Scholars attending the university, with 154 currently enrolled.
This is the official website for our Registered Student Organization (RSO) which holds monthly meetings and frequent campus events. In addition, we actively participate in giving back to the Bloomington-Normal community. Here are some of the events we partake in throughout the school year:
St. Jude’s Up ‘Til Dawn at Illinois State University (Normal, IL)
Jammies and Jingles at Children’s Discovery Museum (Normal, IL)
Golden Apple ISU St. Baldrick’s event at Illinois State University (Normal, IL)

We also work with other businesses in Normal where we fundraise for our RSO while also giving back to the community.
